Charles Manigault (son of Louis Manigault, Sr.) noted her identification at the bottom, "My Aunt Emma, 1867. C.M." and Louis Manigault, Sr. wrote on reverse, "Emma Manigault, nat. 1839 - ob. 1886". The photographer's mark on reverse, "263 King St. Charleston S.C. F.A. Nowell."
