Description:

Color photograph of firemen in an aerial work platform (or bucket) fighting the fire that destroyed the old Charleston Museum on Rutledge Avenue. Dental student, Tony Martin, shot this image from Ashley Avenue after midnight. The wall had just collapsed onto a ladder truck, injuring one fire fighter, and the two firemen in the bucket were hit by falling bricks as it crumbled. According to "The News and Courier," firemen arrived on scene around 11:22 pm. on October 18 and battled the blaze for two hours before bringing it under control.
