Description:
Photograph of members of the U.S. House and Senate gathered around General Douglas MacArthur on the steps of the Capitol. A copy of the joint resolution of the Thanks of Congress was handed to MacArthur by Speaker John McCormack (far right) following Congressman L. Mendel Rivers (left center) speech. Rivers described the General as "the greatest soldier of our time." Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson can be seen directly behind MacArthur.
