Description:

Photograph of amateur golfers practicing on the 9th green in front of the club house before they compete in the Southern Amateur Tournament held at the Savannah Country Club. Andrew Manson is identified in the center walking off the green. Note the group of caddies in the background who seem to be joking around as one tries to blow a golf ball into the 9th hole. Paine notes on reverse, "9th green & Clubhouse, Savannah, Ga. May 1905."

The Southern Amateur was an amateur golf tournament that started in 1902 and played at match play until 1964 when it changed to stroke play. Andrew Manson won the tournament in 1904 and 1905.
