Golf, Tournament of the Gardens Open

Description:

Photograph of professional golfer, Olin Dutra, putting on the 18th hole during the Tournament of the Gardens Open hosted by the Wappoo Country Club (now the Country Club of Charleston) located at their present site. Dutra's caddy is standing next to him, holding the course flag as he poses for the photographer. The clubhouse is in the background. Paine has incorrectly identified him as, "Mortie Dutra 18th green. Wappoo Club. Gardens Tournament. Mch 1934." It is now thought this is actually Olin Dutra, Mortie Dutra's younger brother. Photograph MK 1772c is the same image but Paine has noted on the back that "Dutra" is the U.S. Champion in 1934, but in fact, Olin Dutra won the U.S. Open in 1934 - not Mortimer Dutra.
