Description:

One of three laughing gull eggs (Leucophaeus atricilla atricilla) collected from the Deveaux Bank near Rockville when their incubation had started and identified by the birds nearby. Cutts slip described the nest being made "of reed stems and grass placed in high grass on the ground on side of sand dune on bar at the mouth of the North Edisto River." Cutts also noted the multitude of birds utilizing the area stating "thousands of terns, skimmers and pelicans also inhabit this bar." Incubation of the eggs had started by time of collection and identification was confirmed by observing the birds in the area (see CBE1947 - CBE1949).
