Description:

Photograph of the Nathaniel Russell House when it operated as a boarding school by the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Paine set his camera up on the second floor of his house (47 Meeting) to capture the landscaped garden of patterned flower beds, ornamental shrubs and pathways. The domed steeples of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church (53 Meeting) can be seen in the background with St. Michael's Church (71 Broad) steeple visible to right in the far distance. Old catalog card states the specific date of April 1900. Printed from a glass plate negative held in the Museum's Archives. See also MK 9756.

Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy purchased the home in 1870 and operated a boarding school there until 1905.
