Photograph of a large crowd gathered in front of a stage at the launching ceremony for the nuclear-powered submarine, USS L. Mendel River, visible in the background. Presumably the National Athem is being played as everyone has their hands to held to their heart. The submarine was built and launched at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. The image was removed from an old photograph album.
