Description:

One of three everglade kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis plumbeus) eggs collected near Lake Okeechobee, Florida by Alexander Sprunt, Jr. (see CBE867 - CBE869). The eggs had been slightly incubated before they were collected in May 1940. Sprunt noted the nest was made "of grasses and trash about 3 feet up over water in a clump of cane. A boat trail had been cut by this nest within 2 feet by fishermen, and the female deserted the eggs. They were stone cold for 5 days, then taken."

Original set mark: LO/1, Sprunt collection.
