Description:

A sample of sandstone that is tan to orange to brown, with sand grains cemented by iron oxide (limonite), collected from the extreme northern tip of Richland Co., circa 1972. This type of sandstone is one of the few really hard rock types of the Coastal Plain, occuring fairly commonly as layers a few inches thick in the extreme western Coastal plain, at the points of merger of the Coastal Plain with the Piedmont.
