Spatula clypeata, Duck egg

Description:

One of six northern shoveler eggs (see CBE1177 - CBE1182), (possibly) collected from the Jordan River swamp, Vancouver Island. The eggs had been incubated when collected and identified when the bird was flushed. Per Lindsay's slip, the nest was "well built of grass and lined with down. Under a sage bush. Half a mile from water." These eggs are part of the Sprunt Collection with incomplete locality data; B. C. seems to correspond with available information, including the breeding range. Utah is the other possibility.

Synonym: Anas clypeata Linnaeus, 1758
