Stercorarius parasiticus, Jaeger egg

Description:

One of two parasitic jaeger eggs (CBE1850 - CBE1851) collected from Laxardal in Northern Iceland. It was originally collected by W. F. Palsson in June 1950 who noted the egg had been freshly laid. Palsson also noted that the egg "was placed on a small mossy tussock in a marsh. [The] eggs were resting in slight depression in the moss with few grasses as lining." Identification was made due to the parent being observed roosting. Later acquired by Ernest Cutts.

Original set mark: 52/2, Palsson Collection
