Description:

Oil landscape painting on canvas illustrating a cluster of sunlit trees on the horizon line. Ball used two tones to convey the foliage: a dark green thickly applied, and a pale yellow thinly applied. The same thick, dark green appears in the lower left, a shadow cast presummably by a tree under which the artist sits. A red soil path lined with weeds curves right from the center bottom. Handwritten on the reverse reads, "July 24, 1913 7 A.M. M.W. Ball."
