Description:

Watercolor on paper of a figure drawing illustrating a woman seated in an unfinished rocking chair. Ball would have done this painting as a quick sketch, likely for the purpose of practice in capturing the pose and defining characteristics of the model. The unidentified woman wears a mint colored dress and black heals. She sits with her arms resting on her legs which are crossed. The image consists of blocks of solid color, apparently added without an initial pencil sketch since there are no pencil lines. The woman leaves no shadow on her surroundings, though there are shadows in the creases of her dress. The pigment is applied in a wet-in-wet technique, everywhere except for the areas in black.
